We were reminded that the mystery of the gospel, that the gentiles were included in salvation along with the Jews, had been revealed to us so that it was no longer a mystery. And that revelation is full and final, so we don't need to move beyond Jesus to the latest fad or fancy. Rather, we continue in Christ Jesus for it is in him alone that salvation is found.
We also learnt that rather than looking down on Paul because he suffered, that his suffering confirmed the genuineness of his faith. As Christians, we can expect to be persecuted and suffer. Indeed, in order to attack the message of Christianity, people will often try and tear down Christians themselves. Yet Paul struggles and is persecuted in order to encourage the Christians in Colossae and Laodicea, because he longs to present everyone perfect in Christ.
It was indeed awesome to be reminded that all we need to do is have faith in Christ, for it is in him alone that we have salvation. We need to keep Jesus as our number one priority as we continue to walk in him.
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
